Saya mula mengenali Zulkifli Nordin sejak isu Aishah Bukhari, gadis Melayu dari Johor yang keluar Islam dan menyertai Kristian kerana mengikut kekasihnya. Ketika itu Zulkifli Nordin adalah Setiausaha Masjid Jamek, Kuala Lumpur. Kerana kedudukannya di situ, Masjid Jamek menjadi pusat kegiatan menangani isu murtad itu. Sejak itulah, saya mula kagum dengan keberanian Zul.

Namun, hari demi hari, sebagai wartawan keyakinan dan kekaguman saya kepada beliau mula terhakis. Ia bermula sejak dia mengendalikan isu Aishah Bukhari lagi. Kenyataan, bahasa yang digunakan, fakta yang diberikan sangat hebat. Namun, di dalam hati kecil saya mula tertanya-tanya…betulkah segala kenyataan ini.

Yang paling ketara, kenapa beliau begitu berani membuat kenyataan yang bersifat hasutan tetapi beliau tidak pernah dilaporkan dipanggil atau disiasat oleh polis. Padahal apa yang beliau nyatakan dalam ucapan dan kenyataannya amat sensitif kepada hubungan kaum di negara ini ketika itu.
